We are authorised by the Taxation Administration Act 1953 to request tax file numbers (TFNs). We will use your TFN to identify you in our records. It is not an offence not to provide TFNs but if you don't there may be a delay in processing this form.

We are also authorised by the Taxation Administration Act 1953 to collect the information requested on the Nomination of a legal representative to act on behalf of an individual or non-individual forms. We need it to enable us to deal with and disclose information to your representative about your taxation affairs on your behalf. If you do not provide this information, we may not be able to process your form or deal with your nominated representative.

Where authorised by law, we may give this information to other government departments and agencies, including:

  • Services Australia
  • Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • Law Enforcement Agencies.

We also provide taxpayer information to treaty partners overseas under international tax agreements.
