Bangkok — new Chancery construction

The Government will provide an additional $87.5 million over five years (including $35.5 million in 2013‑14) to relocate the Australian embassy in Bangkok to a more secure location. Construction is expected to commence in 2012‑13 and be completed by March 2014. The total cost is estimated to be $193.4 million.
Capital funding will cover the construction and fitout of new buildings. It will also provide heightened physical and communications security measures, and the inclusion of a Head of Mission residence on site.
The measure will be funded from reserves held in the Overseas Property Special Account of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

The Government will provide an additional $269.5 million over six years (including $160.8 million between 2013‑14 and 2014‑15) to relocate the Australian embassy in Jakarta to a more secure location. Construction is expected to commence in 2012‑13 and be completed by December 2014. The total cost of the project is estimated to be $415.1 million.
Capital funding will cover the construction and fit out of new buildings. It will also provide heightened physical and communications security measures, and the inclusion of a Head of Mission residence on site. The expense funding of $1.3 million over three years will cover costs associated with the development and review of plans for the building and tenant fitouts.
The measure will be funded from reserves held in the Overseas Property Special Account of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
