Introduction

Pay As You Go (`PAYG') is a key element of The New Tax System and started on 1 July 2000 for most taxpayers. Under PAYG Withholding, if you make certain listed payments, you will be required to withhold an amount from those payments and send it to the Tax Office. Withholding is required from payments by a labour hire firm to its individual workers and from payments to other entities that do not provide an Australian Business Number (ABN).
