Overview of ATO consultative forums

The ATO recognises the important role of the community as owners of Australia's taxation and superannuation systems. Accordingly, we consult widely with taxpayers, business and professional associations.

The ATO Consultative Forum Arrangements illustrates the forums we support.

The ATO Consultative Forum Calendar lists the dates for each forum meeting.

Business and community

Business and community participate through a range of consultative forums including the following peak forums.

Individual Taxpayer Advisory Forum

The Individual Taxpayer Advisory Forum (previously known as the Personal Tax Advisory Group) focuses on co-designing new products and services to assist individual taxpayers. Members include associations representing a wide range of taxpayer groups. A number of community advisory groups also operate in conjunction with ITAF.

Commissioner's Small Business Consultative Group

The Commissioner's Small Business Consultative Group (CSBCG) focuses on strategic issues in the tax and superannuation systems to assist the business community. Members include peak industry bodies, industry associations, small business operators, software developers and the tax profession. A range of industry specific forums and business advisory groups operate in conjunction with the CSBCG.

Large Business Advisory Group

The Large Business Advisory Group (LBAG) focuses on issues of law interpretation, tax and superannuation administrative processes, and the co-design of new products and services to assist the large corporate sector. Members include senior tax executives of large corporate entities, tax advisors, industry associations and peak bodies.

Charities Consultative Committee

The Charities Consultative Committee (CCC) focuses on issues of tax and superannuation administrative policy and practice in the non-profit sector. Members include peak bodies and associations representing the non-profit sector, academics and non-profit organisations.

Tax profession and other intermediaries

The tax profession and other intermediaries participate through a range of consultative forums including the following peak forums.

National Tax Liaison Group

The National Tax Liaison Group (NTLG) focuses on strategic issues for the tax and superannuation systems. Members include recognised professional associations, the law council, and peak industry bodies. NTLG sub groups address specific areas of the law.

ATO Tax Practitioner Forum

The ATO Tax Practitioner Forum (ATPF) focuses on strategic administrative issues in the tax and superannuation systems to assist tax practitioners and their clients. Members include tax practitioners and their clients.

ATPF sub groups address specific areas of administrative policy and practice and co-design products and services which assist tax practitioners, BAS service providers, and their clients.

There is also a number of Regional Tax Practitioner Working Groups (RTPWG) which provides opportunities for regional tax practitioners to contribute to the improvements in the tax and superannuation systems.

Software Developer Consultative Group

The Software Developer Consultative Group (SDCG) focuses on administrative issues in the tax and superannuation systems to assist software developers and their clients. Members include a wide range of Australian and international software developers. SDCG sub groups co-design products and services which assist the software industry and their clients.

Superannuation Consultative Committee

The Superannuation Consultative Committee (SCC) focuses on strategic issues for the superannuation system. Members include peak bodies, industry association, regulators and superannuation funds.

SCC sub groups co-design products and services which assist the superannuation industry, superannuation funds and their clients.
