Business returns and paid parental leave focus for SME community
This month SME community members had the opportunity to share their views on an ATO review currently underway into business income tax returns, with a discussion activity on the topic and live chat with members of the review project team.
Respondents seem to be of a common mind - a review is timely and anything that will simplify the system and paperwork is good. Some argued such reviews should be conducted on a more regular basis to improve how the ATO works with SMEs.
A PDF summarising the current status of the project review was made available to participants before the chat and is currently still available online, along with the chat transcript for community members.
Members were also able to provide feedback on their experience using the Paid Parental Leave Scheme which was introduced a year ago.
While many respondents had yet to use the scheme there were mixed reactions from those who had made use of it. Some members like the scheme as it provides support for the family unit but others were more critical, questioning the role of Centrelink in its administration and criticising the added administrative burden the scheme may cause for their business.
This discussion and others are currently available for viewing and comment by members at the community site.
