The Australian Taxation Office is working in partnership with industry to help create an informed and confident industry that is ready and able to comply as tax reforms are implemented.

The ATO has established a Racing Industry Partnership with representatives from the Australian Racing Board, the Australian Harness Racing Council, the Australian New Zealand Greyhounds Association, and the National Race Owners Association.

The Partnership is a consultative forum where issues affecting the industry are raised and discussed. The identification and supporting dialogue of these issues has assisted the ATO in understanding the industry and is providing a speedy resolution of the major matters under consideration.

Purpose of the industry partnership

The key elements and objectives of the industry partnership are:

  • To encourage, support and assist the Racing Industry to understand and meet its GST obligations and tax reform measures including ABN, Pay as You Go (PAYG) and Business Activity Statements (BAS)
  • To be proactive in developing and maintaining communication networks to assist industry associations in identifying issues from an industry perspective
  • To work with industry bodies to resolve these issues
  • To establish a successful industry alliance that will maximise our efforts by assisting more businesses in a focussed and coordinated way.
