The Australian Business Register (ABR) will help you spend less time on tax and more time on your business.

The ABR is the starting point for registering your business. Go online to register for your Australian business number (ABN) once you've started setting up your business.

How the Australian Business Register helps you

The ABR provides online access to Australian business number (ABN) data and transactions.

Visit www.abr.gov.au to:

  • register for an ABN and other tax obligations, such as GST and PAYG withholding
  • register for an AUSkey (if your business has an ABN you can apply for an AUSkey, a single key to access government online services)
  • access and update your own business details (if you have an AUSkey), check information, such as the GST status and ABN of other businesses, for ordering and invoicing purposes by selecting the 'Search for an ABN using ABN Lookup' link
  • apply for a tax file number. This service is not available to individuals (sole traders).

Security

You will need an AUSkey to update your business registration details on the ABR. AUSkey is a single key to access government online services.

An AUSkey will allow you to do the following online:

  • lodge or revise your activity statement
  • check your business tax accounts
  • lodge PAYG payment summaries
  • lodge superannuation statements and reports
  • lodge excise fuel grants scheme claims.

Register for an AUSkey at www.abr.gov.au/auskey
