Supporting document requirements for objections

This page lists the documents and information we usually need to process objections about the subject displayed.

Self-education expenses

  • Did you receive Austudy, ABSTUDY or Youth Allowance to study, and if so, over what period?
  • Were you employed full time, part time or casually?
  • When did you start your employment?
  • Did you change your position (to a new employer or new position with the same employer) while undertaking the study?
  • If you did not change your position, provide a detailed list of the duties you were required to undertake in your employment.
  • If you changed your position, when did you cease the previous employment and when did you start the new position? Provide details of the duties of the position and, if you had more than one change of position, provide details for each position.
  • Why did you undertake the course?
  • How did the course directly relate to your employment position?
  • Details of the course you were undertaking including
    • the name of the course
    • the subjects you were required to complete, and
    • the name of the organisation that offered the course.
  • What date did you start the course?
  • What date did you complete the course?
  • A description of expenses (and details of the cost and the date you paid, or were invoiced, for each of the expenses) you incurred (including non-deductible expenses) in relation to your study (for example, text books, stationery and fees).
  • Were you required to pay course fees?
    • Were these course fees paid using the Higher Education Loan Program (HELP)? Provide details of the loan.
  • Did you receive an allowance or were you reimbursed by anyone for expenses incurred in relation to your study? If yes, provide details including
    • how much you received
    • whether you received it for a specific purpose (for example, to pay for text books only), and
    • who paid you the money.
  • Did your employer encourage you to undertake the course? How did they encourage you - for example, paid leave, allowances and/or rewards and bonuses?
  • Did your employer provide you with leave to study?
  • Did you study during your own time or during work time?
  • Copies of documentation to substantiate your claim.
