Periodic settlement permissions

A periodic settlement permission allows you to:

  • deliver your biodiesel into the Australian domestic market for a specified period (usually weekly or monthly for small businesses)
  • defer lodging your return and paying the excise for your biodiesel until after the end of that period.

A periodic settlement permission also tells you how long you have to deliver your biodiesel into the Australian domestic market, before you have to lodge your return.

You can apply for a periodic settlement permission when you apply for your licence or when you need it, depending on your circumstances.

To discuss your eligibility, contact us.

Example: Lodgment date for a periodic settlement permission

Emily has nominated a periodic settlement permission for the period Saturday to Friday in any given week, so she needs to report any deliveries she makes during that period on her excise return. Emily must lodge her return on the following Monday. If that Monday is a public holiday, she needs to lodge it on the Tuesday.

The usual settlement period is seven days, but can be monthly for small businesses.

If you do not hold a periodic settlement permission

If you do not hold a periodic settlement permission, you have to lodge your excise return and pay excise duty before delivering your biodiesel into the Australian domestic market. Once we have received your payment and processed your return, we will give you a delivery authority; that is, permission to move your biodiesel from your licensed premises.
