Cleaner fuels grants scheme

The cleaner fuels grants scheme (CFGS) encourages the manufacture or importation of fuels that have a reduced impact on the environment. If you manufacture and import biodiesel and biodiesel blends where the biodiesel component of the fuel meets the biodiesel fuel standard, you may be entitled to a cleaner fuels grant. You must keep records to demonstrate that all the biodiesel you produce meets this standard.

If you sell the biodiesel to another entity that holds an excise licence or settlement permission for the fuel, then generally the entitlement to the cleaner fuels grant moves to the other entity.

Records of compliance

Your records should include details of any testing done on the fuel, including the:

  • date of each test
  • test methods used
  • test results.

The Australian fuel quality standards for biodiesel and diesel describe fuel testing methods and the specification points that must be certified in order to meet the standard. You need to be able to substantiate that all biodiesel on which you have claimed a cleaner fuels grant meets the required fuel standard.

The terms 'fuel standard' and 'biodiesel fuel standard' refer to fuel standards under the Fuel Quality Standards Act 2000.
