Self-assessment

When you claim a fuel grant your claim is based on self-assessment. This means that you are responsible for the following:

  • assessing your own eligibility based on the rules of the EGCS
  • keeping records that support your claims.

You must keep detailed records of your fuel use for five years after making your claim so you can provide evidence to support your claims. You can claim for fuel you purchased up to three years earlier, so you may have to keep records of fuel purchase and use for up to eight years.
