In May 2010, we adopted a new online security credential called AUSkey. We no longer issue new ATO digital certificates and renewal and replacement facilities have been switched off.
Time is running out to use your ATO digital certificate to register for an AUSkey. Soon ATO digital certificates will no longer be supported and you'll need an AUSkey to continue using our online services. While your ATO digital certificate is active, you can use it to register for an AUSkey. Provided you register from the computer on which your ATO digital certificate is installed, your existing portal permissions will carry over to your AUSkey.
AUSkey is a single key to access government online services. In the future you may no longer need different user IDs and passwords as AUSkey becomes accepted by more government agencies for their online services.
If your business has an Australian business number (ABN), you are eligible to register for an AUSkey.
AUSkey offers many improvements over our existing digital certificate system, including a quick and easy registration process and an online management facility.
We encourage you to register for an AUSkey as soon as is convenient so you can take advantage of its many benefits.
Fast and easy online registration - in most cases, you'll be able to use your AUSkey almost immediately.
Flexible installation options - you can install your AUSkey on your computer, a USB stick, a server or a combination of these options.
Online management facility - you can view, update and cancel your own AUSkeys.
If you are an Administrator AUSkey holder, you can register other people for AUSkeys and view, update and cancel any AUSkey associated with your business.
Automatic renewal - as long as you use your AUSkey at least once each year, it will not expire.
