Clean energy initiative - overview

The government has introduced a comprehensive plan to move to a clean energy future. This includes:

  • introducing a carbon price
  • promoting innovation and investment in renewable energy
  • encouraging energy efficiency
  • creating opportunities in the land sector to cut pollution.

The Clean Energy Regulator is the government body responsible for administering legislation that will reduce carbon emissions and increase the use of clean energy.

The Clean Energy Regulator is part of the Climate Change Portfolio. It is the government body responsible for administering the:

  • Carbon Pricing Mechanism (CPM)
  • National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting (NGER) scheme
  • Carbon Farming Initiative
  • Renewable Energy Target.
