Media release 2012/55

With the festive season upon us the Australian Tax Office (ATO) has warned people to remain alert to possible scams these holidays.

It follows another email scam where a fake ATO email redirects people to a false Reserve Bank easy pay site asking for people's credit card details.

The ATO would never request personal bank details via an email.

The latest scam comes a day after the ATO issued a warning about a phishing email that appeared to be an official ATO email sent from an ato.gov.au address.

If people are suspicious about an email they've received, they should report their concerns to 1800 060 062 or forward the entire email to ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au.

People are encouraged to visit the online security page on the ATO website for more information about how to protect themselves online.
