There are a number of options available if you want to change the following registration details for an entity:

  • entity name or trading name
  • postal, email or business address
  • authorised contact person
  • associates
  • main business activity
  • financial institution account details.

You must update your details within 28 days of any change.

Adding or updating public officer details must be in writing.

If you are adding an authorised contact person, think carefully about the extent of the authority you are giving. We will only discuss your entity's tax affairs with your authorised contact according to the authority provided to us.

For further information on whether you are authorised to make these changes, refer to Primary contacts and authorised contacts.

When updating your details in the Australian Business Register (ABR) it is important that the information you provide is true and correct.

Making a false or misleading statement to the Australian Business Register (ABR) may result in a penalty. However, if you made a mistake and we consider that you took reasonable care, a penalty will not apply.

The penalty may also be reduced to nil if a voluntary disclosure is made about the statement before being contacted by the ABR.

For more information on the penalty and voluntary disclosure, refer to Penalties for false or misleading statements made to the Australian Business Register.
