Tax information in languages other than English

The ATO provides a range of information and services in other languages to help people who do not speak English or do not speak English well.

Publications

A range of printed information is available in other languages, including material covering topics such as personal tax, record keeping for businesses and superannuation. You can get this information from the ATO website or by calling our Publication Distribution Service on 1300 720 092.

Website

Translated information and publications are available on the Tax Office website. Look under 'Other Languages' which can be found on the top right hand side of the www.ato.gov.au homepage.

Seminars/workshops

The ATO can present seminars and workshops in some languages other than English. We provide seminars for groups of 10 or more and can tailor these sessions to suit the needs of your clients. To discuss your requirements you can:

  • phone the national coordinator on 1300 130 282

  • send an email to speakersandseminars@ato.gov.au, or
  • write to PO Box 900 Civic Square ACT 2608.

In the media

The ATO runs monthly tax information programs on SBS Radio in 17 languages. The segments cover a range of current business and personal tax issues of interest to listeners. The programs are broadcast in Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Polish, Russian, Turkish, Vietnamese, Korean, Serbian, Greek, Croatian, Italian, Spanish, Dari, Dinka, Japanese and Macedonian.

We also run a number of tax information in-language programs on community radio. These programs range from fortnightly to monthly.

The ATO also provides information to non-English newspapers on various tax issues including Quarterly Superannuation and BAS/IAS lodgment reminders.

Translating and Interpreting Service

If your client does not speak English well and wants to talk to a tax officer, they are able to call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 13 14 50 for help with their call.
