We are working with the community to improve our products and services to help make the tax administration system easier, cheaper and more personalised – making it easier for the Australian community to comply with their obligations.
The easier, cheaper and more personalised program means improved online, phone and paper products, services and experiences for three key groups – individuals, business and tax agents. We regularly report on the progress of these improvements on our website and through our annual publication Making it easier to comply.
Around 10 million individuals, predominantly salary and wage earners, make up the largest group in the tax system. As individuals, you don’t interact with the tax system frequently but you have asked us to improve a number of products and services to make it easier for you to comply with your tax obligations.
Business operators have a lot to deal with, developing the business, keeping the books, finding and keeping customers and managing staff. We have heard what business operators, particularly small business operators, would like us to do to help them comply.
Tax agents play an important role in the administration of our revenue laws and we are working hard to develop an open and constructive relationship with them, recognising their practice management issues in our administrative design.
