Commissioner announcement

Commissioner announcement

Our Commissioner, Michael D'Ascenzo, AO announced to the ATO on 24 October that he will conclude his term as Commissioner of Taxation at the end of 2012.

Mr D'Ascenzo is an inspiring and authentic leader and we will be sad to see him leave. Under Mr D'Ascenzo's guidance, the ATO has increased its standing here and internationally as a leading tax and superannuation administration and contemporary public service agency. The Joint Committee of Public Accounts and Audit recently stated 'the administration of Australia's tax system is robust. Overall it is well managed, providing a trusted foundation for Australia's people, business and governments'.

Mr D'Ascenzo leaves the ATO on a high. He was recently recognised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia as the Federal Government Leader of the Year 2012 and he will be missed both personally and professionally.

What people are saying

'I am sad to see you go from the role of ATO Commissioner, a role you have performed with great aplomb, skill and good grace.'

'Thank you for being the people's Commissioner. Your vision for the ATO, and everything you've done to align us with that vision, made me so proud to work for the public service and the ATO.'

'While it is sad to know you're leaving, the work you will be involved in is crucially important to Australia's long term future. If you are able to achieve half as much in this space as you have in the ATO, our future as a nation looks good.'
