Contributing to the community

Employee volunteering program

Our employee volunteering program helps match staff who want to volunteer with an organisation that suits their skills, time commitment and interests.

During National Volunteer Week we acknowledged, through special events, the volunteer work many of our employees perform in their local communities.

Workplace giving

Our workplace giving program continued in 2010-11, enabling staff to contribute money to charities directly from their fortnightly pay.

During the year 960 staff (3.35%) participated in the program, down slightly from 1,004 staff the previous year. They contributed $397,852 (compared with $403,343 in 2009-10) to 32 charities.

Our people also gave generously to the Queensland Premier's disaster relief appeal to assist those affected by flooding and Cyclone Yasi. During February our employees made donations of $43,352 to the appeal through our payroll system.

Supporting local communities

Our people contributed to their local communities in 2010-11 by conducting various fundraising activities for local and national organisations.

In sites across Australia, our people raised money for those affected by natural disasters. They also participated in fundraising activities, such as Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, Red Nose Day and Red Cross blood donor challenges.

Many of our sites proudly received recognition from charities for their fundraising activities.
