Conclusion

Tax funds the lifestyle we enjoy in Australia and superannuation funds our retirement as a nation. As we know it is important - and it is important we get it right. We have a shared responsibility in working together for the best system possible.

I've spoken to you today about the changing face of our workforce and the knowledge that resides within that workforce. And whether it is an evolution or revolution, one thing is clear: we are going through a period of transformation in the ATO to ensure our people have the skills and expertise to continue to carry out our important work for the community now and into the future. After all, as Charles Darwin once said: "It is not the strongest of species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change."

I would like to close today not only thanking you for your ongoing work at the core level in the education of our system but to remind you of our continued responsibility to the future of our system.

It is through your work that we can see not only the ongoing promotion of best practice ethical behaviour of practitioners but also the continued and important challenge of the system with new ideas, debates and innovations.

I look forward to continuing to work together.

Thank you.
