Following is a list of links and resources that may assist in further educating students about tax, super and general financial literacy.

Tax and super links and resources

National

Produced by the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ASIC), this resource provides an introduction to superannuation and insurance for young people. There are three investigations for Years 11-12 on insurance, superannuation, and understanding risk.

Written for Indigenous people, this fact sheet explains how superannuation works, what an employee is entitled to, and how superannuation helps individuals and their families. It covers a range of super topics, with case studies to illustrate the concepts involved. This could be used as a teacher and student resource.

International

The following resources can be used by students to learn about and compare tax and super systems from around the world.

United Kingdom

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) Education Zone contains resources that explain the UK tax and National Insurance (super) system to students. It includes two online modules:

    • Tax Matters - a set of three interactive online modules on income tax, National Insurance and citizenship, suitable for 11-19 year olds
    • The Big Blue Office - a resource including a game for 5-11 year olds.

Money, tax and benefits contains fact sheets about the UK tax and welfare system. It's found on Direct.gov, the UK's online government service.

New Zealand

What's tax? is a New Zealand Inland Revenue website for students, with introductory information about tax.

Canada

The 'Educators' page on the Canada Revenue Agency website has an online learning unit about Canada's tax system.

United States

The Internal Revenue Service's learning package, Understanding taxes, gives an introduction to the US tax system.
