The Australian Taxation Office recognises the important role superannuation organisations play in the administration of the Australian superannuation system. In recognition of this role, the ATO has established the Superannuation Consultative Committee. This forum will concentrate on high level aspects of ATO administration, which will include:

  • advising on the implementation of government policy in superannuation
  • providing input into ATO strategies and programs involving superannuation and its clients
  • agreeing on what issues need further work and commissioning this work
  • reviewing progress in implementing agreed approaches concerning superannuation.

The committee will also provide an opportunity for all parties to exchange candid views and to gain a mutual understanding of their respective situations. This understanding will provide a sound basis for the Committee to identify, discuss and commission work to resolve issues. If necessary, the Committee can create additional, ad hoc, short-term working parties to address particular issues, or liaise with other relevant working parties to examine particular matters in more detail.

The Committee will also oversee the work undertaken in the following working parties:

  • Superannuation Technical Sub-group of the National Tax Liaison Group (NTLG)
  • Superannuation Funds Working Group
  • Superannuation Consultative Committee Education and Communication sub-committee
  • Superannuation Consultative Committee Approved Auditors Working Group
