External members
External members have been selected on the basis of their involvement and knowledge of the practical issues facing superannuation administration.
Association members are offered ongoing membership of the forum. The association should nominate a representative attendee for meetings. Where the representative attendee is unavailable the association may wish to nominate a substitute. These details should be provided to the chair prior to the meeting.
Corporate members (ie the two representatives of superannuation administrators) are offered membership of the forum for a period of two years.. The corporate should nominate a representative attendee for meetings. Where the representative attendee is unavailable the corporate may wish to nominate a substitute. These details should be provided to the chair prior to the meeting.
Changeover of the two corporate members will be staggered (ie one per year) to maintain the forum's continuity. Interested parties will be invited to express their interest in joining the forum. The request for expressions of interest will be publicised through the ATO's superannuation related forums as well as the ATO website. In the absence of any, or any appropriate, expressions of interest, the chair may invite membership to ensure appropriate coverage across the range of issues and funds in the superannuation system, including self-managed superannuation funds.
Other government agencies are offered ongoing membership of the forum. The agency should nominate a representative attendee for meetings. Where the representative attendee is unavailable the agency may wish to nominate a substitute. These details should be provided to the chair prior to the meeting.
Changes to membership are to be approved by the chair and considerations will include the effective workable size of the forum and level of representation across the superannuation industry of the current members.
Withdrawal of membership
Members may choose to withdraw from a forum at any time. Where possible, reasons for withdrawal will be sought.
Membership will be subject to review, with consideration of capacity to participate in meetings and ongoing consultations. The secretariat shall monitor member participation and attendance patterns, with the aim of an amicable exchange of members as appropriate. It is anticipated that such review might occur once a year. Members are free to withdraw from the group at any time, should they wish.
