Using the SG charge and statement calculator tool

Tips and tricks

  • Have all your information ready and at hand before starting the calculator tool
    (refer to Getting started).
  • Save your progress once you reach the Summary screen and before you add another employee, to prevent data loss. Keep a record of your reference number and password.
  • You only have seven days to return to an incomplete statement. However, if you need more time, resuming and selecting Save again will give you another seven days.
  • Don't understand something? Key terms within the calculator tool are written in blue text and link to a help file. Clicking on the term will take you to this help file.
  • See our Guide to superannuation for employers.

Can I save information that I've entered into the tool?

Yes, you can save the information you have entered into the calculator tool at the Summary screen.

You will only reach this screen once you have entered all the relevant details for an employee - whether this is for a single quarter or multiple quarters.

Clicking Save will provide you with a reference number and prompt you to create a password.

Keep a record of your reference number and password so you can later resume and complete the SGC statement. Your reference number will be valid for seven days.

We strongly recommend that you save your progress in the calculator tool once you reach the Summary screen and before adding another employee, otherwise you may lose any data you have entered into the calculator tool.

Can I resume a saved application?

Yes. If you have previously saved information, you can click the Resume button on the first page of the calculator tool to continue with your calculation. You do not have to be on the same computer you used to start the calculation.

The Resume screen will ask you to enter the:

  • reference number we provided when you saved
  • password you created.

Attention icon

You must keep a record of your reference number and password. You only have seven days to return to an incomplete statement. However, you can resume and then save again, which will give you another seven days.

If you lose your reference number or cannot remember your password, you will need to restart your calculation, as we are unable to help you retrieve the data you have entered, your reference number or your password.

Can I pause while using the tool?

Your session in the calculator tool can expire (time out) if you do not enter any details for a while, so you should limit the time where you don't enter any data to half an hour.

Therefore, we recommend you continue using the tool until you reach the Summary screen, where you can save your calculations.

How accurate is the tool?

Every endeavour has been taken to ensure the accuracy of the calculator tool. The outcome derived from the calculator tool depends on the accuracy of the information you provide.

In addition, note that nominal interest is only calculated to the day you are using the calculator. Nominal interest will continue to accrue until a completed and signed statement is lodged with the ATO. It is important you lodge the statement as soon as possible after using this calculator.

How do I move between screens?

We recommend you use the Continue or Back buttons located at the bottom of the screen to move between screens, otherwise you may lose the data you have entered into the tool.

If you wish to move between fields on the same screen, you can use the Tab key or you can use your mouse to click in the appropriate field.

How long should it take to move between screens?

Once you have clicked the Continue button, it normally takes less than 15 seconds for you to see the next screen. If it is taking a long time to move or appears to be frozen, we recommend you click Continue again.
