8. Lodge substituted accounting period tax returns electronically

A member addressed the ability to lodge substituted accounting period (SAP) returns on current software. Example a company with a 31 December 2008 year end ( and therefore a SAP for 2009 tax return ) cannot lodge their tax return by ELS as the software has not been created for 2009 and the Tax Office will not accept the return on 2008, even though the software allows you to indicate what period the return is covering.

Meeting discussion

A member tried to lodge the return for the income year 2008 but was treated by the system as return for the income year 2007. The member therefore had to lodge the return in hard copy format.

Action item	NSWRTPWG 0904/06 The Tax Office to provide a response on when SAP returns can be lodged electronically.
