Agencies in league

Tax Commissioner Michael D'Ascenzo and his Australian Federal Police counterpart Tony Negus recently signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two agencies.

This MOU, signed on Tuesday 7 July, provides a framework for co-operation. It provides clarity to the relationship, outlining obligations and collaboration, and how this will continue to develop the strong professional relationship between the ATO and the AFP in accordance with the 'whole-of-government' strategic approach.

"We have enjoyed a very good relationship with the APF, both in law enforcement task forces and in our day-to-day support," Mr D'Ascenzo said.

Many people across both agencies have been negotiating this MOU over the last two years, and the finished product is a culmination of all of their work.

The ATO maintains a close relationship with the AFP in relation to referrals, case partnerships, sharing of information and joint investigations into tax related criminal offences and proceeds of crime actions.
