You should care for your Keys and Certificates in much the same way as you look after valuable documents such as a passport or a credit card. Since the Keys and Certificates are electronic, it is important to store them in a secure environment on your computer and hold a back up copy on some other electronic medium you can store securely (eg diskette).

Once your Keys and Certificates are imported to the ECI software, you control the access and use by a password. In the ECI your private key password is assigned by you, the Certificate Holder, at the time of importing Keys and Certificates to the ECI. The password assigned must be at least 8 characters long and made up of alpha and non alpha characters. The ECI software is a secure environment, provided you do not share your private key password with others.
