You need to complete Step 1 - Confirm your eligibility and download e-tax before you can start this step.

Enter your details into the relevant sections of e-tax. You can do this by either following the interview-style prompts, or using the Menu bar or the Navigator options.

E-tax includes the pre-filling service which automatically fills in some of your details for you. All you have to do is review the details and add any missing information.

To use the pre-filling service you will need to meet the eligibility requirements as you will be required to verify your identity online before your details are downloaded into your tax return.

If you need help with completing your tax return or using the e-tax software, you can access the comprehensive help files from within e-tax.

Step 3 - Using e-tax to lodge your tax return online

Once you have completed your tax return and satisfied the eligibility requirements, you can lodge your tax return online.

Navigate to the Lodgment section of e-tax by either:

  • selecting Lodgment in the Menu bar and then choosing 'Start lodgment process', or
  • clicking Lodgment in the Navigator on the left-hand side of the screen

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the lodgment process.

If your lodgment is successful, you will immediately receive a confirmation.

The confirmation will provide:

  • a unique lodgment reference number, and
  • the lodgment date and time.

If you want to enquire about the progress of your tax return, you should refer to this confirmation.
