E-tax 2009 paper lodgment

Email to a friend
Printer friendly format

If you are unable to lodge your tax return online, you can still use e-tax to prepare it. You will then need to print it out, sign it and post it to the Tax Office. The processing time will be the same as for other paper returns (six to eight weeks).

Before you print a copy of the tax return, follow the steps below.

Step 1

Prepare your tax return using e-tax 2009. If you have already used e-tax to prepare your tax return, open your existing e-tax file.

You can only open the current year’s e-tax files using e-tax 2009.

Step 2

Select Lodgment in the Navigator on the left-hand side of the screen.

Step 3

You will be presented with a screen titled:

  • Errors
  • Review and lodge, or
  • Checklist.

If your screen is titled:

  • Errors, you will need to fix those errors – go to step 4.
  • Review and lodge, go to step 5.
  • Checklist, go to step 6.

Step 4

Correct any validation errors by following the instructions on the screen or in the help file and then select Lodgment in the Navigator again.

If your screen is titled:

  • Review and lodge, go to step 5.
  • Checklist, go to step 6.

Step 5

Review the items at the Review and lodge screen. When you have finished, click Yes at the bottom of the screen.

Step 6

Review the Checklist information, then click Next.

Step 7

When you have read the taxpayer’s declaration, select Printing in the Navigator.

Step 8

Select the items you wish to print and click the Preview or print button, followed by the Print button at the top left-hand corner of your screen.

Step 9

Attach, if required:

  • your tax return supplementary section
  • a business and professional items schedule
  • any additional information attachments.

Step 10

Sign and date the taxpayer’s declaration on page 8 of your tax return and any other relevant pages or attachments.

Step 11

Post your tax return to the following address:

    Australian Taxation Office
    GPO Box 9845
    IN YOUR CAPITAL CITY

The address must appear on your envelope as shown. Do not replace the words ‘IN YOUR CAPITAL CITY’ with the name of your capital city (unless you are lodging from outside Australia). Because of a special agreement with Australia Post, there is no need for you to include the name of your capital city or a postcode.

If you are lodging from outside Australia, replace ‘IN YOUR CAPITAL CITY’ with:

    SYDNEY NSW 2001
    AUSTRALIA
