Special area zone notes - King Island and the Furneaux Group
Warning: This information may not apply to the current year. Check the content carefully to ensure it is applicable to your circumstances.
King Island and the Furneaux group (Flinders Island, Cape Barren Island and Clarke Island) were reclassified in 2001 as special zone areas.
As a result, residents of these islands are eligible for the special area zone tax offset rather than the Zone B offset.
If you were a resident of the islands during an earlier year and claimed a tax offset at the Zone B rate, you or your agent can:
Request amendments going back four years from the issue of the assessment.
Request an extension to lodge an objection if the assessment notice was issued more than four years ago. The 1990–91 year is the earliest year for which a zone tax offset may be available.
