The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) recognises that clients in natural disaster affected areas may need more time to meet their lodgment and payment obligations.

What was the disaster?

Between December 2010 and February 2011, Australia suffered a number of significant natural disasters, including flooding, bushfires and storms.

What area was affected?

Substantial areas of Queensland and Victoria were affected, as well as more limited areas of Western Australia and Victoria.

What is the ATO doing to help?

If your business or residential address is in one of the identified affected postcodes listed below, the ATO will automatically make arrangements to defer the following taxation obligations - you will not need to apply for a deferral:

  • lodgment and payment of the December monthly activity statement from the original due date of 21 January 2011 to 21 March 2011
  • lodgment and payment of the January monthly activity statement from the original due date of 21 February 2011 to 21 March 2011
  • lodgment and payment of December quarterly activity statements from the original due date of 28 February 2011 to 28 March 2011
  • lodgment and payment obligations of income tax due in February 2011 for a period of one month.

All deferrals granted for later dates will still apply. If you are affected by a natural disaster and you require further assistance or your business is outside the following postcodes, please contact us on 1800 806 218.
