HECS-HELP benefit - Overview

Who is eligible?

	ECE teachers	Maths & science graduates	Nursing & midwifery graduates	Education graduates
Benefit available from	1 July 2009	1 July 2009	1 July 2010	1 July 2010
Course eligibility	You are eligible for the benefit if you: graduated from an appropriate course after the date specified early childhood education (not applicable) natural or physical sciences (30 June 2008) nursing or midwifery (30 June 2009) education (30 June 2009) were a Commonwealth-supported or HECS-liable student for some or all of that course had a HECS or HELP debt at the time you completed the course.
Occupation eligibility	You must be employed, for a minimum of one week in the income year for which you are applying:
	in a facility for providing education or childcare services to children before they start formal schooling and either be providing: education or childcare services to those children, or pedagogical support to staff who teach those children	in a mathematics or science related occupation.	as a registered nurse as a registered midwife, or as an enrolled nurse	as an early childhood, primary, middle, secondary or special education teacher, or as a school principal.
Location eligibility	Only applicable to ECE teachers: the employment location is in a regional or remote area, Indigenous Australian community or an area of high socio-economic disadvantage.
Eligible debt	You: have not repaid your HELP debt since completing the course have a HELP debt that relates to the course in the income year for which you are applying are required to make a compulsory HELP repayment in the income year for which you are applying (not applicable to ECE teachers).
