This calculator will help you to work out the amount of tax offset that you can claim for your parent, spouse's parent or invalid relative for the 2011-12 income year.

To work out the amount of tax offset that you can claim for your invalid spouse or carer spouse for the 2011-12 income year use the Spouse (without dependent child or student), child-housekeeper or housekeeper tax offset eligibility tool and calculator.

You may be entitled to a tax offset in your 2011-12 tax return if you maintained a dependent relative who is your:

  • invalid relative (child, brother or sister 16 years old or older) or your spouse's invalid relative
  • parent or spouse's parent.

You maintained a dependant if any of the following applied:

  • you and your dependant lived in the same house
  • you gave your dependant food, clothing and lodging
  • you helped them to pay for their living, medical and educational costs.
