Tax file number essentials
We issue tax file numbers (TFNs) to individuals and organisations to help us administer tax and other government systems. You don't have to have one, but if you don't, you may have more tax withheld from your wages than necessary and be unable to receive some government benefits. A TFN also makes many of your tax-related activities easier.
