Non-Profit News Service No. 0266 - New initiative to help the non-profit sector

Email to a friend
Printer friendly format

We have developed a new initiative to help non-profit organisations understand their tax obligations and entitlement to tax concessions.

Over the next few months, we will be calling a selection of organisations that recently obtained an Australian business number (ABN) and indicated on the ABN application they are non-profit. The calls will be limited to non-profit organisations that do not use the services of a tax agent so we can support those more likely to require our assistance.

During the calls, we will discuss key areas such as non-profit status, income tax exemption, deductible gift recipient status, goods and services tax (GST) obligations and concessions and employer obligations.

We will also discuss products and services we have to help non-profit organisations, such as:

  • publications, including fact sheets, guides and rulings
  • the area of our website specifically for non-profit organisations at www.ato.gov.au/nonprofit
  • our free email update service for non-profit organisations, which includes articles from our Non-Profit News Service
  • our information line on 1300 130 248, which provides direct access to staff trained to handle non-profit enquiries.

Organisations will also be invited to participate in a survey about the value of the calls.
