Increase text size Decrease text size

On 11 January 2011, the Premier of Queensland and the Queensland Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Emergency Services declared additional areas of South-East Queensland to be disaster situations due to continued widespread flooding.

The following disaster districts meet the requirements of the deductible gift recipient (DGR) category 'Australian disaster relief fund'. Funds collecting donations for the disaster districts below can apply for DGR endorsement under this category - refer to Australian disaster relief funds and tax deductible gifts for more information.

The declared disaster districts are the:

  • Brisbane disaster district
  • Gympie disaster district
  • Ipswich disaster district
  • Maryborough disaster district
  • Toowoomba disaster district
  • Warwick disaster district
  • Redcliffe disaster district.

These areas are in addition to those previously declared by the Queensland Minister for Police, Corrective Services and Emergency Services during December 2010 and listed in Non-Profit News Service No. 0309 - Support for victims of Queensland floods.

The article also advised that the Queensland government has launched an appeal to help Queenslanders affected by the recent floods. More information can be found on the Queensland Government website.

You should keep records of all tax-deductible donations you make to help you prepare your income tax return. However, if you make one or more donations of $2 or more to bucket collections conducted by a deductible gift recipient for flood victims, you can claim a tax deduction equal to your contribution without a receipt provided your contribution does not exceed $10.
