5. Not for profit governance tool project

The ATO is considering building a tool that assists non profit organisations with their governance requirements.

From the ATO's point of view the aim of this tool is to ensure organisations consider if they:

• are still a charity? (and if not they need to advise the ATO)
• are still entitled to the concessions they receive?

It will be used to help prioritise the organisation's governance responsibilities.

Members felt that something like that would be useful but probably more as a checklist rather than a governance tool as that insinuates a 'big brother' tool. A governance tool would be useful as an annual review tool for the charity.

As a result of the discussion it was decided that it best to gauge interest through Non Profit News Service.
