Tax offsets

An advisory message will be displayed when your client may be eligible for either the senior Australians tax offset (SATO) or pensioner tax offset (PTO) because they satisfy the date of birth requirement.

The following items will be displayed from payment summaries:

• item T4 - Australian superannuation income stream
• item T8 - Zone/overseas forces tax offset.

The report will also display details for:

• item T5 - private health insurance rebate details
• item T9 - 20% tax offset on net medical expenses over the threshold amount (Medicare benefit tax statement).

Medicare benefit tax statement

Your client's 2010 Medicare benefit tax statement in the Pre-filling report was available from 1 July 2010 to 31 May 2011.

Your client can register to receive this information directly from Medicare:

• via the online services section of the Medicare Australia website
• by phoning Medicare Australia on 13 20 11
• by visiting their nearest Medicare Australia office.
