Super is money set aside over your lifetime to provide for your retirement. For most people, super begins when you start work and your employer starts paying super for you. You can also build your super with your own contributions to take advantage of super's favourable tax treatment.
Accessing your super benefits
You can access your super when you reach preservation age and retire, or you turn 65. There are very limited circumstances where you can access your super before retirement. Temporary residents who have left Australia can apply to have their super paid out.
