Education tax refund calculator

In the 2012 Budget, the government announced the education tax refund (ETR) would be replaced with a new payment called the Schoolkids Bonus.

You cannot claim the ETR for expenses incurred in the 2011-12 income year, or any excess eligible expenses you carried forward from the previous income year.

Transitional arrangements provide for the Department of Human Services to make a one-off payment to eligible families in June 2012. If you did not receive the payment but think you are eligible, contact the Department of Human Services on 13 24 68. From 1 January 2013, you may be eligible for the Schoolkids Bonus.

This calculator can only be used to help you work out how much ETR you can claim for the 2010-11 income year.

You can use this calculator if one of the following applies:

  • you are required to lodge a tax return
  • you are not required to lodge a tax return
  • you are an approved care organisation (ACO).
