The Tax Practitioner Consultative Forum issues log is a compilation of issues raised by tax intermediaries or professional association representative members of forums or working groups administered by the Tax Office. In March 2009 a new process for dealing with and recording issues from several ATO Tax Practitioner Forum (ATPF) sub-groups was introduced. These were the Bookkeeper Advisory Group (BAG) and the seven Regional Tax Practitioner Working Groups (RTPWGs).
The seven RTPWGs represent North Queensland, South East Queensland, New South Wales, Melbourne, Tasmania, South Australia and Northern Territory, and Western Australia. They are identified with the acronyms NQ, SEQ, NSW, MELB, TAS, SA/NT and WA in the log. Some issues identified as originating from a particular region may have been raised through a relationship manager visit in that area.
From 1 July 2009 issues raised by members of the ATO Tax Practitioner Forum (ATPF) will also be included in the tax practitioner consultative forum issues log. The former ATPF issues log will cease to be updated with issues raised after 30 June 2009. ATPF member issues will be tagged with the identifier 'ATPF'. In some instances members of professional associations will submit an issue directly and these will be simply identified as 'PA'. It is anticipated that other forums will be added to the list of forums included in the tax practitioner consultative forum issues log at a later date.
The Tax Practitioner Consultative Forum issues log captures issues of a systemic nature which affect or are likely to affect large numbers of tax intermediaries or their clients. The log does not record issues that are raised at forum or working group meetings as these are dealt with as agenda or action items and are recorded in meeting minutes, but rather issues that are raised out of session. Issues will be published to the log once a response has been provided and accepted.
