Concessional tax treatment for overseas programs

The government has announced changes to the overseas forces, overseas civilian and official development assistance programs that will apply from 1 July 2012. The changes extend concessional tax treatment for the following activities:

  • Middle East Area of Operations, continuation of Australia's military contribution (Operation Slipper) - extended to 2012-13
  • Solomon Islands, continued Australian Defence Force assistance to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (Operation Anode) - extended to 2012-13
  • Timor-Leste, continuation of Australia's commitment to helping to maintain security and stability (Operation Astute) - extended to December 2012
  • Australia's civilian engagement in Afghanistan, an integrated whole-of-government approach - continuation extended to 2013-14
  • Australian Federal Police (AFP), continued deployment to the United Nations Mission in Cyprus - extended to 2012-13
  • official development assistance, extension of AFP commitment to the United Nations Mission in Timor-Leste - extended to 2012-13
  • official development assistance - Pacific Police Development Program -continuation, extended to 2015-16.
