Is a password required?

Yes, a password is required.

How many passwords can a practice have?

Each practice can have one password per ELS user ID, which is often called an Approval Number.

What are the password rules?

An ELS password:

  • must be between 8 and 16 characters long
  • must contain at least one alpha and at least one numeric character
  • cannot contain the same character more than three times
  • can have a maximum of two characters in the same position in both the current and new password
  • is not case sensitive as lower case characters are converted to upper case
  • can never be repeated.

Updating passwords

How often must the password be updated?

ELS passwords must be updated at least every 30 days.

Can you update a password whenever you want?

You can update a password whenever you want but each software product operates differently, so you will need to familiarise yourself with your product.

Incorrect and forgotten passwords

What happens if you enter the wrong password?

If you enter the wrong password, you can try again. After six consecutive incorrect attempts, you will be locked out of your account.

What happens if you become locked out?

If you become locked out, you will need to contact us to reset your password and unlock your account. To contact us:

  • use the ELS password reset form in the Tax Agent Portal
  • phone us on 13 72 86 and using Fast Key Code (FKC) 3 1.

What if you forget your password and need to have it reset?

To have your password reset, contact us:

  • using the ELS password reset form in the portal
  • by phoning 13 72 86, FKC 3 1.
