5. Update on the impact of changes to the release 3 implementation

The Chair provided background to the delay of the income tax component. The focus for the first release will be on fringe benefit tax only and the system will be shut down over Easter for this. In preparation for the system changes that are planned for income tax later in the year, there may be a need to shutdown amendment processing. The Chair would like to come back to the working group members to get their view on proposed letters to taxpayers advising of the delay.

It was suggested that an 1800 number for taxpayers to call regarding the reason for the delay would be useful. The Chair advised that specific cases, for example where delay would cause hardship are likely to be processed manually.
