You can phone the Tax Office

The most common way of contacting the Tax Office is by phone. Our offices are open from 8am to 6pm Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays.

For personal income tax-related enquiries (which covers issues such as lodging tax returns, tax file numbers, being taxed by your employer) phone 13 28 61.

For some contacts, such as complaints, we have dedicated phone numbers. You can find these listed at Contact us by phone.

You can visit one of our shopfronts

At a Tax Office shopfront, you will be able to:

  • talk to our personal tax staff (not superannuation or business)
  • access our websites
  • pick up a range of publications and brochures
  • access our priority phone service for superannuation and business issues.

If you need one-on-one assistance, you can make an appointment for a personal interview at one of our shopfronts by phoning 13 28 61.

Shopfronts are open from 8.30am to 4.45pm Mondays to Fridays, except public holidays.

You can email the Tax Office

The Tax Office now provides an email enquiry service for people with questions relating to certain topics. For more information, read Personal tax email enquiry service.

Note:

  • We cannot access your records or provide you with specific information relating to your taxation obligation via email.
  • Please do not include personal details in your email enquiry such as your tax file number or identification details

You can use Tax Help

Tax Help is a free service offered by a network of Tax Office-trained community volunteers. Tax Help is aimed at people who have simple tax returns (that is, salary and wages, bank interest, Centrelink payments and dividends) who meet an income test.

You can use a tax agent

Registered tax agents and some financial planners can provide advice on taxation matters (for a fee). You need to ensure the financial planner is able to give tax advice. Do not use an unregistered tax agent.
