Registrations for business

Register your new business
If you're starting a new business you can register for an ABN, business name, AUSkey and tax roles at one time, through the Australian Business Register. If you're setting up business as an individual (a 'sole trader'), it will speed things up if you provide your tax file number (TFN) when you apply. Companies should provide their Australian company number.
Registering your business
You may need to register for a range of obligations, such as goods and services tax. You can register for many of these using the one registration form.
If you’re in business you should get an Australian business number (ABN). You may also need to register for certain tax obligations and entitlements. We use registration to manage the tax and superannuation systems fairly for all businesses and their employees.
Work out which registrations you need
Some registrations are compulsory depending on the nature of your business, while others are optional but you'll find it easier if you have them. It's best to get an Australian business number (ABN), and an AUSkey to deal with us online. You may also need to register for GST and other tax obligations.
