Tax Practitioners Board
The Tax Practitioners Board (the Board) is an independent statutory body responsible for regulating tax agent services, including business activity statement (BAS) services in Australia. The Board administers the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 and reports to the Assistant Treasurer. The Board aims to assure the community that tax practitioners (tax agents and BAS agents) meet appropriate standards of professional and ethical conduct.
To support the Board in achieving its outcomes, we identified and referred 207 cases of potential breaches of the Act to the Board. We also record and collect civil penalties imposed by the Federal Court under the Act. In 2012–13, we collected $6,000 in relation to four penalty cases.
