    When to lodge

    We accept Indigenous cadetship program applications once a year.

    Applications for the 2018 Indigenous cadetship program open on 7 September 2017, and close at 5:00pm (AEDT) on 28 September 2017.

    Lodging your application

    The first stage of the application process is completed online. You need to provide:

    • personal information
    • current academic transcript (as an attachment – maximum 3MB)
    • employment details
    • resume (as an attachment – maximum 3MB)
    • referees.

    We recommend you have this information ready when you start your application.

    Once you have submitted your online application you will receive an acknowledgment. Check if one was sent by logging on to e-RecruitmentExternal Link, and clicking on 'My Profile' then 'My Emails'. If your acknowledgement is not shown, email Entry level programs

    You are able to log into e-Recruitment and update your personal details at any time. However, you cannot change other details in your application such as your employment and education history, your statement detailing your claims to the positions, or your site preferences (if relevant to the vacancy in question). If there are significant issues that affect the information in your application, you should email Entry level programs.

    Reviewing your application

    Once your application has been received, it will be assessed and you will be advised if you have progressed to the next stage.

    Interview

    You may be asked to attend an interview with a panel of ATO staff.

    The face-to-face structured interview is designed to further assess your suitability and interest in the Indigenous cadetship program.

    Preliminary decision

    At this point your performance will be reviewed and your suitability determined.

    Final checks and offer

    We'll conduct a number of pre-employment checks. Any offer of employment will be subject to the results of the enquiries being satisfactory.

    It is a condition of employment in the ATO that you agree to have a criminal history records check. You'll be asked to provide information about yourself and to give us the right to check any information you provide with relevant authorities such as the Australian Federal Police.

    If everything is okay, you will be able accept the formal offer and start your career with us.
