    Revenue

    • GST cash outcome of $57.4 billion (including net Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) collections), an increase of $3.1 billion
     

    Expenditure

    • preliminary GST administration expenditure of $679.6 million
     

    GST gap

    • estimated gap (including debt) of $3.78b for 2014–15
    • the 2015–16 reporting period relates to gap estimates in the 2014–15 tax year
     

    Registration and processing

    • 2.62 million active GST registrants
    • processed more than 10.2 million original BAS
    • banked 13.4 million BAS-related payments with a value of $251.9 billion
    • issued over 1.6 million activity statement refunds with a total value of $50.1 billion
     

    Debt

    • GST collectable debt was $3.38 billion at 30 June 2016, a decrease of 2.6% on 2014–15
    • ratio of GST collectable debt to GST revenue was 5.9%, down from 6.4% at 30 June 2015
     

    Guidance and advice

    • finalised 730 GST-related private ruling requests, 96% within 28 days of receiving the necessary information
    • completed 5,345 guidance requests, an increase of 7% on last year
     

    Addressing non-compliance

    • raised $3.30 billion in GST liabilities from direct activities to address non-compliance, a 27% increase on last year
     

    Lodgment

    • raised $1.49 billion in GST liabilities from lodgment compliance activities, an increase from $1.0 billion last year
    • 94.0% of monthly BAS lodgers lodged, 83.2% on time
    • 88.0% of quarterly BAS lodgers lodged, 75.3% on time
     

    Objection

    • received 1,150 objections (5% fewer than last year) and completed 1,355
     

    Prosecution

    • completed 96 GST-related fraud investigations and had 58 successful outcomes
    • referred 28 briefs of evidence for GST-related breaches to the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution (CDPP) or to our internal prosecution area
    • 14 GST-related fraud matters were successfully prosecuted by the CDPP
    • a further 877 matters were prosecuted for GST-related administration offences
     

    Litigation

    • received 67 new matters and completed 84 cases
    • 11 GST-related decisions were delivered (5 significant), with 1 unfavourable
     

    Department of Immigration and Border Protection

    • collected $3.5 billion in net GST and $25.7 billion in deferred GST on imported goods
    • cleared 4.0 million import and 1.5 million export declarations
    • processed 39.3 million import lines with an import value of $275.54 billion and 5.2 million export lines with an export value of $243.8 billion
    • administered 839,876 claims under the tourist refund scheme
