  • Privacy notice – Copies of tax documents request

    Under the Taxation Administration Act 1953, we can legally request tax file numbers (TFNs). We use the TFN and other information provided in the Copies of tax documents request form. to identify the person who is deceased or under guardianship, as well as the executor or administrator in our records.

    If you do not provide a TFN, it is not an offence, but there may be a delay processing this form.

    Where we can legally do so, we may give this information to other government departments and agencies, including:

    • Services Australia
    • Australian Bureau of Statistics
    • law enforcement agencies.

    We also provide taxpayer information to treaty partners overseas under international tax agreements.

    Our privacy policy contains important information about a person’s privacy, including information about:

    • accessing and seeking correction of information we hold about you
    • making a complaint if you think we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles
    • dealing with privacy complaints.
